A Carousel Storage System is a specialized piece of equipment designed to automate storage and retrieval of small parts. It brings the product to the picker that results in increased throughput and reduced labor costs and enables a large inventory to be densely stored by eliminating aisles, thus decreasing the floor space used.
These savings can produce a return on investment in less than 2 years. There are two main types of carousels: Horizontal - which is a series of bin shelving sections mounted on a horizontal oval track and Vertical - which is a series of pan-type shelves mounted on a vertical oval track inside a metal enclosure. With both systems, when activated, the bins or shelves rotate to bring the requested items to the operator or automated picker.
